As Electronic Arts, the developers of the FIFA game, prepare for the annual global series, football federations are selecting their e-athletes, just like in traditional sports. The South African Football Association (SAFA) will host an eCUP, which will serve as qualifiers for players who will represent the country at the FIFA Global Series.

The event will take place both online and offline. Participants will compete in three rounds of qualifiers from February 4th to March 6th, 2023. The top eight players from the qualifiers and the top eight players of the FIFA Global Series (on March 1st, 2023) will make up the final sixteen to participate in the grand final, which takes place on March 25th.

The top three players will automatically qualify to be invited into the official SAFA Gaming national team roster for 2023. The event is free and registration ends January 30th. Interested gamers can head over to SAFA.gg to start the registration process.

SAFA explains: “If you believe that you have what it takes to become South African champion in FIFA23 on Playstation 5 and be part of the national team, then register for the SAFA eCUP to compete with the best and make the final 16 in the SAFA eCup grand finals on the 25 March 2023 to determine the new national team for 2023.”
