When talking about gaming and esports on the African continent, one of the significant setbacks has been the lack of servers. Servers facilitate smooth and better game plays when playing a game. When game developers and publishers launch various games, they ensure servers are located almost in every region to have a global appeal.
Gamers in Africa have had to connect to servers in Europe by default to be able to play games and compete in terms of esports. The lack of servers has been one reason the continent gets overlooked in many global tournaments.
Few stakeholders in the region have gone ahead to sign petitions to request servers from developers like Electronic Arts who are the makers of the FIFA game.
Activision, who are the publishers of Call of Duty Mobile, a widely played title in Africa has launched its African servers in South Africa.
Activision took to its Twitter page to announce the launch. The hosting of the servers was in partnership with Carry1st, Africa’s game publishing company.
Although it seems the launch of the servers is focused on South African Call of Duty Mobile gamers, for now, the rest of Africa can still benefit and are closer than servers in Europe.
