As excitement continues to build in the African Cup of Nations, countries are entering their second group matches, and match day results have brought about some surprising outcomes.
Speaking of surprises, the Orange Esports Experience, an esports tournament hosted by Orange Telecoms, has recently concluded with an unexpected country emerging as the winner.
Originally conceived as a 14-nation tournament in EFootball2024 on Playstation 5, only 10 countries ultimately participated. These 10 nations were grouped into 2 sets of 5, deviating from the initial plan of 4-team groups.
The newly formed groups were as follows:
Group A: Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea, Benin, Morocco, Cameroon.
Group B: Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Sierra Leone, Madagascar.
Each country battled for a spot in the round of 8, all with their eyes set on claiming the title. Benin from Group A and Sierra Leone in Group B faced an early exit, while the remaining teams advanced to the quarter-final round.
Following intense quarter-final and semi-final battles, Senegal and Madagascar emerged as finalists, with Madagascar securing a 2-1 victory to claim the title.
Madagascar winning the 2024 Orange Esports Experience, marks a double for the country, as they also emerged as winners in the 2023 edition. Facing a formidable opponent in Morocco during the semi-finals and competing against popular eFootball powerhouse Senegal and previous 2022 champion in the final, Madagascar surpassed expectations.
In the battle for third place, the host country Cote d’Ivoire edged out Morocco.
Cash prizes were awarded to the winners as follows:
Champion: Madagascar – €2500
1st Runner-up: Senegal – €1500
2nd Runner-up: Cote D’Ivoire – €1000
