Bandai Namco, the publisher of the popular game Tekken, has announced the dates for their annual Tekken World Tour. In a historic move, Africa has been included as one of the offline locations for the tour, marking the first time African gamers will be able to participate in person rather than solely online.
The event will kick off in West Africa at Paradise Games in Ivory Coast, which will host the tour’s challengers event category. The organization took to Twitter to announce the news, and it has been received with great excitement from the gaming community across Africa.
The inclusion of Africa in global esports tournaments has long been a subject of debate among stakeholders. However, the decision to include Africa in the Tekken World Tour is a positive sign that esports is growing and gradually receiving the recognition it deserves.
Paradise Games will be hosting the tour with an event theme “Game Battle” in Abidjan, Ivory Coast for two days on May 20th and 21st. Gamers will compete for points, and the player with the highest points will be rewarded with a $1,000 prize from Bandai Namco.
