Gamecampcities – the 360 Gaming Agency (GCC) in Dakar, Senegal, under the lead of Kofi Sika Latzoo,
its Founder and Global Creative Director, started to develop a business relationship with Alibaba
Cloud the day the team from Dakar in Senegal bought the domain name for MUSEL, an intercontinental
media-start up created in 2019 showcasing and advising the digitization in the art sector.
Back then, GCC first contacted James Fitzgerald, an American expert based in Xixi campus in Hangzhou,
China and working as a senior training specialist for Alibaba Cloud Academy in China. Since then the
team of GCC and James Fitzgerald together with Alibaba Cloud Academy ‘s solution architect Yan Zhang
plus two of his chinese colleagues have been building up a very good partnership : GCC learned how
Alibaba cloud teams are working and Fitzgerald received visibility for his expertise at Kedge Business
School, Bordeaux, France, as a key speaker during Kofi Sika Latzoo’s Olympics lecture in design in esports.
GCC immediately understood how powerful, secure and affordable the offer of Alibaba Cloud is regarding trainings and certifications. Alibaba Cloud has no data center in Africa. These are the reasons why as a second step, GCC began trying to bring Alibaba Cloud to the African market.
“It was rather difficult for us to attract and deal with the global team of Alibaba Cloud. In Europe f.ex. their
unique data center is in Frankfurt, Germany”, says Kofi Sika Latzoo. „We started the journey of our collaboration with the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, because our country lead for Madagascar within our GCC-team is also the collaborator for culture, sports and esport department at this important African university. By the way, his name is Rapelanoro Rabenja Tovo A aka Tovolah , the famous pioneer malagasy hip hop artist and a certified gamification consultant accredited by german government agency ‘s GIZ “.
Then COVID-19 arrived in the world and slowed down this new and interesting working process with
the University of Antananarivo which would have been the very first partner institution to work with.
This circumstance however, pushed the global team to have a closer look at the whole region and made
all universities and colleges in 50 countries of Africa available for this academic cooperation ‘s deal.
On 15th March 2021 Professor RAVELOMANANA Mamy ‘s, President of Antananarivo University and
his team RAKOTONASY Herinjaka Solonantenaina (IPURD Director – Institute of University Pedagogy
for Research and Development), RANDRIANARISOA Rina (Technical Advisor to the President of the
University) signed this very important academic cooperation partnership putting Madagascar as the
first country in Africa to include Alibaba Cloud Academy entire curriculum on Big Data, Aspara cloud
management and E-commerce knowledge from alibaba.com platform to the university‘s program
making ready it students for a post covid era future with free dedicated servers, both for educators
and students.
“This agreement between Alibaba Cloud and Gamecampcities, powered by the University of
Antananarivo, will be presented during the E-SAINA Academic E-SPORT AFRICA SUMMIT in May
2021,” Kofi Sika Latzoo says.
