African Esports Championship 2024: Casablanca Prepares to Host

Casablanca, Morocco – In an exciting development for esports enthusiasts across Africa, the International Esports Federation (IESF) recently visited the African Confederation of Digital Sports (ACDS) headquarters in Casablanca. This visit marks the beginning of preparations for the highly anticipated African Esports Championships (AEC24), scheduled to take place from August 17th to 21st this year.

Led by the Fédération Royale Marocaine des Jeux Électroniques under the leadership of Mr. Hicham EL KHLIFI, President of the federation, the IESF delegation was warmly welcomed by prominent figures including government officials and sports leaders. Notable attendees included Mr. Chakib Benmoussa, the Minister of National Education and Sports, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister for Budget and President of Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, and Mr. Mehdi Bensaid, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication. The city of Casablanca, represented by its esteemed mayor Ms. Nabila Rmili, also extended a gracious welcome to the delegation.

The AEC24 holds significant importance as it serves as Africa’s regional qualifiers for the prestigious IESF World Esports Championships (WEC), set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this November. This event not only showcases Africa’s burgeoning talent in esports but also provides a platform for regional champions to compete on a global stage.

Emmanuel Oyelakin, General Secretary of the African Confederation of Digital Sports, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming championships, highlighting the growing interest and support for esports within Africa. The collaboration between IESF and ACDS underscores a commitment to foster esports development across the continent, promoting inclusivity and excellence in digital sports.

As Casablanca gears up to host AEC24, anticipation is high among players, fans, and stakeholders alike.
