The Africa Esports Championship 2024 (AEC24), hosted by the Fédération Royale Marocaine des Jeux Électroniques, concluded on August 21 in Casablanca, Morocco. The event served as a critical qualifier for the upcoming International Esports Federation’s (IESF) World Esports Championships (WEC), set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in November.

With a prize pool of $100,000, the competition attracted top esports teams from across the continent, all vying for a chance to represent Africa on the global stage. The five-day event, held from August 16 to 21, featured intense matches in popular titles such as PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), MLBB (Women), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), and CS: GO (Women).

PUBG Mobile:

Egypt emerged as the champion in the PUBG Mobile category, with Morocco finishing as the runner-up, and Mauritius securing the third spot. These three teams have now earned their places in the World Esports Championships in Riyadh, where they will compete against the world’s best.

CS:GO2:

Tunisia demonstrated its prowess in CS: GO, taking home the championship title. South Africa, the first runner-up, also qualified for the World Esports Championships. The women’s CS: GO category saw South Africa dominate, securing their spot in Riyadh as well.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB):

Egypt once again showcased its strength in the esports arena by winning the MLBB category. Morocco, the first runner-up, will join Egypt in representing Africa at the WEC. In the women’s MLBB category, Egypt continued its winning streak, with the team earning another championship title and qualifying for the global event.

The AEC24 not only highlighted the growing talent in African esports but also underscored the continent’s potential to compete at the highest levels internationally. As the teams prepare for the WEC in Riyadh, all eyes will be on them to see if they can bring home more glory for Africa.
